ADMISSION / REFERRAL

The Lodge at Broadmead does not accept applications for admission directly.  All applications for admission are handled through the Vancouver Island Health Authority.

To inquire about admission, call the health authority general enquiries line at 250-388-2273 or 1-888-533-2273 or visit their website.

To qualify for admission to the Lodge at Broadmead, people must meet citizenship and provincial residency requirements as well as the criteria the Vancouver Island Health Authority has established for admission. Health authority staff will conduct a thorough, standardized assessment of a person’s need and urgency for residential care to determine whether they are eligible.

When an offer of admission is made, the resident and his or her family have an opportunity for a personal tour of the facility.

Costs

Residents pay a monthly fee that is based on income according to a fee structure set by the British Columbia Ministry of Health. The fee covers accommodation, basic supplies and equipment, meals, most non-prescription medications, basic activities and care. Some services - such as cable television and hairdressing - are provided on a fee-for-service basis.

Most prescribed medications are covered under Pharmacare and are provided at no cost. Residents pay for medications not covered by Pharmacare. Veterans may receive additional funding through Veterans Affairs Canada for some services, equipment and supplies. Residents are informed about all fees and costs when an offer of admission is made.
